The Foundation of UMDNJ Annual Grants Program
Since its establishment in 1973, the Foundation of UMDNJ has been committed to faculty at all the UMDNJ schools, research centers and affiliated institutions. And beginning in 1974, the Foundation has provided funding for an annual Grants Program directed exclusively toward University faculty needs in research, research training, community health, educational enrichment and new university ventures. The funding for these grants is generated by the Foundation's unrestricted endowment.
A critical aspect of the Annual Grants Program is the provision of seed and bridge research grants to new faculty who are on the path to breakthrough discoveries. These research scientists often go on to win external funding, for example from the National Institutes of Health. In order to determine the grants each year, the Foundation's Program Committee, in conjunction with the University's Office of Academic Affairs, conducts and oversees a competitive peer review process among faculty and the UMDNJ schools.
