BROADWAY HOUSE RECOGNIZED FOR EXCELLENCE IN CARE
State's only specialized residential facility for HIV/AIDS patients wins honor

NEWARK—The staff at Broadway House for Continuing Care has been honored as the Best Long-Term Care Team 2006 by Advance, one of the nation's top publishers of healthcare magazines. Broadway House was cited for excellence in post-acute care and will receive an award of $500.

Broadway House, the only specialized care facility in New Jersey for adults with HIV/AIDS, offers comprehensive medical and psychosocial support services in a compassionate and homelike environment. Approximately 350 residents a year receive treatment at Broadway House from 154 clinical and support staff.

"We truly function as a team at Broadway House," said Jeanine Reilly, BS, RN-C, LNHA, Executive Director of Broadway House. "This honor showcases the dedication of our caretakers. I am very proud of them all and thrilled to be a part of such an innovative and leading-edge healthcare facility."

Advance publications are read by more than 1.7 million nursing and other health care professionals across the country. Broadway House will be featured in the November-December issue of Advance for Providers of Post Acute Care, one of 32 Advance publications.

According to the latest available data from the Centers for Disease control, in 2004, the estimated number of diagnoses of AIDS in the United States was 42,514. Adult and adolescent AIDS cases totaled 42,466 with 31,024 cases in males and 11,442 cases in females. Also in 2004, there were 48 AIDS cases estimated in children under age 13. The cumulative estimated number of diagnoses of AIDS through 2004 in the United States is 944,305. Adult and adolescent AIDS cases total 934,862 with 756,399 cases in males and 178,463 cases in females. Through the same time period, 9,443 AIDS cases were estimated in children under age 13.

Founded in 1995, Broadway House is New Jersey's only specialized care facility for adults living with AIDS and is recognized statewide for its innovative and leading-edge treatment programs. Located in a historic neo-classical building, Broadway House offers 74 beds and serves 350 residents a year. The facility provides comprehensive medical, psychosocial, and recreational services; in addition, Broadway House educates approximately 300 students annually in a community-based HIV prevention program. Its award-winning staff of 155 clinical and support personnel nurture the body, mind, and spirit of Broadway House residents in an empathic and homelike setting.
