Physicians and Medical Students Host Student Doctor Program for
Youth at UMDNJ
Physicians and medical students at the University of Medicine
and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) will host a program that gives
children an opportunity to become a "Student Doctor for an Evening."
The program will be held on Tuesday, April 1, from 6 p.m. to 7:30
p.m., at the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, 125 Paterson
Street, New Brunswick.
The Women's Health Institute at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical
School is sponsoring the second annual "Student Doctor for an
Evening" program to introduce youngsters to medical education.
This allows children to imagine becoming a physician and participate
in a hands on, medical education activities.
Parents will observe as medical students from the UMDNJ-Robert
Wood Johnson Medical School guide the youngsters through mock
"clinical rotations" at a simulated hospital. The clinical rotations
will include areas such as pediatrics, obstetrics, surgery, emergency
medicine and research. The youthful "student doctors" will use
a stethoscope to listen to heart sounds, practice suturing wounds
and use reflex hammers as part of a neurological examination.
The youngsters reside in areas such as East Brunswick, Edison,
Highland Park and New Brunswick.
